Journey of a Cup of Coffee
The coffee production process takes one year. This process begins with pruning work after harvesting. Pruning work is done by removing the dry, diseased, and damaged branches and allowing for better sunlight within the plant. After pruning work, next is the blossom period. At this time, normally rain will be there. If not, we will do the sprinkler irrigation. When the water starts pouring, the flowers start blooming from the buds within 7-8 days.
After blossoming, pollination begins, and the flower turns into a small green berry. Over the period of 6 months, other cultural practices will be continued, like fertilizing, spraying, and weed cutting, and we will make sure that berries grow at their best throughout the year. Yearly, three times, fertilization will be done, like after pruning, pre-mansoon, and post-mansoon.
Along with coffee plantations, we have pepper, orange, and avacado plants. We are growing Arebica and robusta plants. Arebica harvest begins in the month of November and Robusta harvest begins in the month of February. Arebica has a softer and sweeter taste and less caffeine content. Robusta contains more caffeine, resulting in a bitter taste.
At the final stage, the green berry will turn into a crimson-red berry, and at this time we will start to harvest. After picking coffee berries, the husk is removed by machine, and the beans are dried in the sunlight for 4-5 days. After the drying process, coffee beans will go to the factory, where grading, roasting, blending, packaging, and final delivery will be done.
